Lesson 2 - Lessons Learned from Accidents

Photograph of an American Airlines DC-10 following an incident in Dallas.

This portion of the course looks back at the history of 10 major airplane accidents. These accidents were chosen for their watershed effects. Each one has had a lasting effect on the way the industry conducts its business and each accident involved multiple engineering disciplines, and provided precursor information that, if recognized in time, might have prevented them.

The 10 accidents listed below are presented in chronological order beginning with the oldest. It is important for you to review these accidents in order. In order to receive credit for this course, you will need to complete both assessments in this lesson. You should complete the first assessment after you complete your study of the first five accidents, and the second assessment after completing the last accident in this lesson.
